Since my last day at work on October 30, 2009, I have been able to focus on things that I really liked but that I didn’t have time to pursue before. Now, six and a half months later I have a job again and I’m so excited to reflect on the things I have been doing to keep myself busy while I was unemployed:
1. Home Improvement Projects: working around the house on projects such as redecorating, organizing, cooking, and gardening has been fun. My patio is ready for summer parties!
2. Biking: La Pajarita has become my number one companion and together we have gone on many fun adventures! She will continue being my friend as I plan to ride my bicycle to work everyday!
3. Photography: Every time I left the house I took my little camera, there’s always interesting things to photograph around town. I even started a little collection of my photos in Flickr!
4. Writing & Blogging: Writing this blog has helped me to learn more about bicycles, bicycle mechanics, and restoration. I’m proud that I now can go to a bicycle website and understand most of the meaning of the “specs”! Of course blogging has also inspired me to attempt being stylish when riding! Now, I’ll get to dress for work, ride La Pajarita, and blog about it later!
5. Friends: I’m also so happy that I have made many new friends! It has been also wonderful to meet some of the blog friends in real life and have enjoyed being able to do things together!
6. Coffee: Not that I didn’t drink the caffeinated elixir before, but having had the time to do it without rushing, in the middle of the morning and in the afternoon has been wonderful. Any time has been a good time to ride downtown to see friends, hang out, and drink coffee at the French Press!
7. Volunteering: Doing some volunteering has also helped me connect with my community. I have loved going to my local public library early in the morning to work on the routing and the Adult Literacy departments. I also enjoyed helping out with translation projects for the local chapter of the bicycle coalition, and of course my work at the Foodbank has been wonderful.
Desde mi último día de trabajo el 30 de octubre de 2009 me he concentrado en las cosas que realmente me gustaban que para las que no tenia tiempo antes. Ahora, seis meses y medio después de mi último día de trabajo tengo un trabajo nuevo y estoy muy emocionada al reflexionar sobre las cosas que he estado haciendo para mantenerme ocupada mientras estaba sin trabajo: 1. La casa: he trabajando en la casa en proyectos de decoración, organización y la jardinería, he cocinado mucho, ... ha sido divertido y mi patio está listo para las fiestas de verano! 2. Ciclismo: La Pajarita se ha convertido en mi principal compañera y juntas hemos pasado muchas aventuras divertidas! Ella seguirá siendo mi amiga ya que tengo pensado continuar montando en bicicleta para ir al trabajo todos los días! 3. Fotografía: Cada vez que salía de la casa tomé mi pequeña cámara, siempre hay cosas interesantes que fotografiar en la ciudad. Incluso empecé una pequeña colección en Flickr! 4. Escritura y blogs: Escribir este blog me ha ayudado a aprender más sobre las bicicletas y la cultura de la bicicleta. El aprendizaje también sobre la mecánica de las bicicletas y su restauración también ha sido muy interesante y estoy orgullosa de que ahora puedo ir a un sitio web de bicicletas y entender el significado de las "especificaciones"! Por supuesto, los blogs también me han inspirado a intentar ser elegante cuando voy en bici! Ahora, cada mañana voy a vestirme para el trabajo, montar en La Pajarita y documentarlo en mi blog más tarde! 5. Amigos y amigas: También estoy tan feliz de que he hecho much@s nuevos amigos y amigas! También ha sido maravilloso el conocer a algun@s de ell@s en persona y hacer cosas junt@s! 6. Café: No es que no tomaba café antes, pero en este periodo he tenido todo el tiempo del mundo para hacerlo sin prisas, a mitad de la mañana o por la tarde. Cada vez que ha sido un buen momento para ir al centro para ver a los amigos/as, pasar el rato y tomando café en la cafeteria French Press! 7. Voluntariado: Hacer un poco de trabajo voluntario también me ha ayudado a conectarme con mi comunidad yendo a mi biblioteca pública local por la mañana temprano a trabajar en el enrutamiento. También me gustó ayudar con proyectos de traducción para el capítulo local de la coalición de la bicicleta y por supuesto mi trabajo en el Foodbank ha sido maravilloso.
